Sunset Idea House

I toured the Sunset Magazine Idea House on Sunday, hoping to leave inspired to redecorate my apartment. To be completely honest, it was a big yawn. I was expecting something a little more homey and inventive, and a little less commercial. The house itself was like one of those cookie-cutter places you find in a housing development, and the decor was nice, but nothing out of the ordinary. Overall it felt a bit sterile. I wanted more vintage and antique treasures, and more personal touches. All was not a complete loss though - love that striking orange wall in the master bedroom, and those gorgeous pillows in the guestroom.

Check out the product info and floorplans, and see more of my photos.

i'd like to see this too, especially since it's in menlo park. we're thinking of moving to peninsula as it's so hard finding an apartment with parking space AND takes 2 large dogs in sf.

I would've been satisfied just looking at photos of the idea house, but if you're in the market to remodel your home or something like that, it might be worth the tour. Overall nothing mind-blowing. :)

Is that a big butcher block on the island? If so, I give them score points on that. If they actually use it - even bigger score! We have a sliver of a butcher block counter next to my stove and I love it. It's clearly been used and looks ancient.

The rest is a bit "magazine spread" but still fun to peak inside homes, no?!!

ALWAYS fun to peek inside homes! :)

And that's actually not wallpaper in the master bedroom - it's bright orange paint with a series of wall decals. And that headboard is painted foamcore, not wood! Crazy, huh? Pretty cool.

Great pictures! I know what you are saying about too new and boring, but I love the vintage knob coatrack, the art walls, and the map (btw I have a couple of those for sale). I think with the monterey idea house they are going a little more antique-y because they are using a great desk from my shop and possibly other (antique)items too.

Orange wall in the Master Bedroom is a textured wallpaper, not decals.
